On the Wings of Freedom
On the Wings of Freedom will focus on 5 immigrants from around the world whose journey here was fueled by desire for freedom, and social opportunity unavailable in their native country and, the willingness to confront the unknown in achieving their dreams. Our subjects will be interviewed in their homes and when possible at their jobs to illustrate what lives they’ve created here and to contrast it to the lives left behind. I intend to visit their home country to show from whence they came and to show the contrast. Using that along with photos and, when possible home video, establish what their lives where before the journey.
I intend to select the subjects and include in the mix stories of the inept and unjust actions of the American Immigration Service so as to paint a more realistic picture of the obstacles’ faced and endured by some of them. As illustrated in the speech before the Senate on June of 2008 by Senator Bob Menendez of, New Jersey, there are instances, too many, of the I.N.S. and I.C.E. systemic failure not only denying these immigrants their rights but, killing their dreams and even killing them with callous indifference.
The final question asked of each is “What would your life be like if the United States of America did not exist?” It’s time to stretch out our Wings of Freedom to continue our trek in history as the leader and inspiration for diversity and democracy.
